Petroleum Engineering Degree worth it?

Well I have a few questions here. I'm nervous to major in Petroleum Engineering because I've heard bad things about it's future and the future of oil. Is this true? Should I do a more broad engineering like chemical or mechanical? Also a lot of CEO's have engineering degrees and that is my long term goal. Is pet. eng. too specialized for this to happen? Double major in that and a BBA possibly?
