Why is the east side of most cities the ghetto part and the west side the nice part?

I agree with Odin's Lied it's probably more about proximity to water because in Chicago it is the reverse and the city faces east towards the Great Lakes. It's all about location. In the Bronx save for coop city and the North side there isn't much for scenery. There fore property values are lower and poorer people can afford the South Bronx as opposed to Midtown Manhattan where there is a lot to do and a lot to see and more well to do people live there. If property values in the bad parts of the cities you named ever increase chances are they won't be ghettos for long.

Engineering and Business?

Would like to have a business and engineering oriented career. Was thinking undergrad in civil engineering. Maybe Michigan for a dual in business. I know general bba's are worthless but I just want it as a compliment. Willing to study a lot and go to some summer school. I want to run a major construction company someday but also be knowledged enough to know whats going on in the field. Is this a good path? Why don't my kitchen lights turn off in a certain situation?

My kitchen spotlights can be controlled by two separate light switches located at opposite ends of the kitchen (2 entrances). Each light switch works fine independently meaning you can turn the light on and then turn it off at the same switch. The problem comes when you turn on the light at one switch and then try to turn if off at the other switch. When you try, the light flickers once but then remains on. This problem is in both directions, meaning either light switch will fail to turn off the light if it wasn't the one you originally turned on the light at. I hope I explained that clearly.

Dealing with a stubborn immature co-worker....I feel like I have tried everything!?

I can't start by saying I am smarter than her....but I do have 4 years of college more than her, and I normally get along with EVERYONE. Sims 3 stuck installing?

So me and my ex boyfriend have been broken up for a year and a half(he did the breaking up) It didn't end badly and we were able to remain friends, which turned into a fwb situation. Things were good for a while until we started fighting more and more and they got more worse each time. We recently just had our latest blowout and i also just got a new boyfriend. We talked last night and he's not even sure he still wants to be friends at this point, he doesn't think it's possible. I still do however and id really hate to throw a friendship away, even though we fight, he's still my best friend. He says he just doesn't care anymore because we always fight over the same stupid stuff we did when we were dating and that things are complicated now and are going to be different because wew won't be close anymore because we aren't cuddling/ having sex. He thinks it's impossible to remain friends when we won't be as close as we were and now that i have a boyfriend. He seems generally upset but i just don't understand why we still cant remain friends without having sex/cuddling. We will still be close, Just not in that aspect. Co-worker pulled a knife on me?

I had just started working at this pallet company for 3 weeks and since the first week one of the other guys there took advantage and I think bullied me. He would have me grab him things a couple feet away from him, stuff he should be getting himself since that was part of his job and I was busy doing my own thing but i grabbed what he needed anyways. Then after a week his request became ridiculous like having me grab him sodas and he would for no reason kick my piles of trash and sawdust I had just swept up and tell me to "clean this S**T UP" he would put his hands on my food and other belongings like my cell phone. one day he put his hands on me and tried to be funny or look tough by putting my hand behind my back and push up like police do, that's when thins started to go down hill and I stopped doing what he would tell me to do and started to ignore him and he told me I have to start doing what he told me to do( He was no higher that me and he had just been working there for 2 weeks longer than me.) he then start throwing old gloves, that the coworkers rolled up into balls and throw them at co workers as a joke, I thought that was un professorial since we are working at a pallet company around nail guns and saws so me and this other guy had bad blood from the fist week. then one day my supervisor came up out of nowhere and put his hands on me and pushed me back out of the way almost making me trip on a step and pushing a stack of wood out of the way to turn the machine off... I couldn't hear him call for me ( if he was) since I had my protective hearing muffs on and my head phones on under those ( I had gotten permission from the same supervisor I could listen to music) that had made me angry that he pushed me out of his way and i started to hold that anger in me the next day I was working in my area when when the guy had came up put his hands on my ear muffs and pulled me out of the way from another machine I was aware of my surroundings and knew what was going on so I think it was just another reason to touch me, I then turned around and pushed the guy and told him to never put his hands on me ever again and stated to yell at him. later that same day we had a safety meeting and I left my water bottle behind and when i went to pick it up he got up and kicked it over, I went out to the parking lot to see this guy sitting down giving me dirty looks, I then Screamed " WHAT THE F**K ARE YOU LOOKING AT" he got up started to walk at me and said "what the F**k you just say to me" I thought there was about to be a fight so I dropped what I was holding and that's when he pulled knife on me I remained calm and planed my that I would start backing up keeping my distance then lunge at the knife but never did. eventually he put the knife away and I found out later that I had been fired for pushing him and he never got fired for pulling a knife on me since the bosses like this guy. I feel this guy saw me as weak and took advantage of me to make him self feel powerful and good about himself. What do I do about this whole thing?

Trying to get the part of Dorothy.. UGH. Help?

Just a little background on me.. I've been in every high school play since freshman year. (and seniority plays a major role in getting parts) Freshman year-I was "Misty" in the Nifty Fifties (comic relief, 12 lines) Sophomore year- Ado Annie in Oklahoma (almost 100 lines, 2 main songs) and then Junior year I was the Lead role in a comedy. Basically, I'm always the comic relief, and I don't mind that! I have an alto voice (just think ado annie.. or Kristen Chenoweth sp? style) And this year.. the directors chose The Wizard of Oz. You see, my school is small, and my grade makes up a LOT of every year's cast. Several of us get the main roles (we have a very talented class!). The only thing.. there isn't really a female comic relief part in this play.. and I want Dorothy. The only other girl in my grade that is 'competition' is a soprano... but I beat her out for the lead in the last play.. I think I have a pretty good chance.. but its just NOT a role i'm used to. Granted, I have 9 months before the play and 7 until rehearsals even start... but when I want a part I WORK for it, and under stand the characters, what they'd think, how they talk, how they sing, how they move. I'm very committed. How can I prepare for the part of Dorothy? I feel so silly being innocent and child like.. But I have to have this lead! haha, help? suggestions?

Zither and oud tuning?

I bought a zither and an oud (Arabic lute) at an estate sale. The zither is Russian, as evidenced by the Cyrillic writing on it. I know you need a special wrench or 'nut' to tune zithers, but how are they tuned? With my sketchy Russian, I was able to determine that the zither is in the key of 'G'. The oud is an eight string or 'course' instrument, but I can't find any books on it anywhere. How are they tuned? It appears to be an alto oud.

First answer's correct, higher note = tighter embouchere. If you're really having a hard time hitting the note, work your way up to the note. Start off a few notes lower, like B or C, and then just go up the scale chromatically until you hit E. Once you hit the note try and figure out how to make the note stronger, changing your airflow, amount, or whatever. Sit down and just play around, it'll come with time. If you're hoping to be able to "hit" it later on, as in just attack with it and play it without any precursor, then I would have to say that, in comparison to the B A G just below it, it is a tighter embouchere with a higher, tighter airflow. Honestly I think it just develops into an unconscious understanding, especially as a beginner. I don't know how much I understood airflow direction tips when I first started.

Canadian with Green Card crossing the border back to Canada after a felony? Can I get back into the US?

4 years ago, I was arrested with a small amount of felony narcotic on me. (Under a gram.) I am a Canadian, living in the US with a green card and have been living here for 19 years with no prior arrests...not so much as a speeding ticket. The case went to court and I was ordered to do 3 months of NA meetings, then report back. The case was then closed and I was informed that it should not affect my Green card status or crossing the border. My lawyer told me that it would simply remain within the court system and not affect other agencies. Is this true? My brother is getting married in 2 months in Canada. Can I safely cross to Canada and safely cross back? And when my Green Card comes up for renewal will I be able to renew it?

I am in a town summer production of "Footloose". Everyone can participate ages 7+. In last year's production of Bye Bye Birdie, I was cast in a large group role: with LOTS of little kids. This year I was cast in that same general group role as a townsperson. I am 14 years old. I am going to be a freshman next year. I went to the first rehearsal and I honestly felt like I was babysitting. They even said on the website that kids ages 7-11 could leave at 8:00. I asked if I had to leave or stay because I had the same part as them. They said I could leave, too. This made me a little angry: I was cast the same thing as the sevenyear olds. I am just about the only one my age. And the kids my age are in the teen choir. I worked really hard for the audition, did better than my friends, and prepared a solo piece and they got a better part than me. I know that I should be happy that I got in (with EVERYBODY else) but honestly I want to be challenged. I'm a born soprano and the stuff we're singing is like monotone alto. Would it be fair to ask the director if it's possible to put me in the teen choir instead? I'm a good actress and singer, but I didn't understand their decision. If I do ask, what do I say? I've had 7 people tell me today to say something about it but I don't feel like I'm in the right place to complain about it. Then again, if i I don't say anything, the play will be ruined for me. My boyfriend broke up with me on Friday. It is killing me. Which is better, the alto sax or soprano sax.?

In order to play soprano you must have a few years on alto, plus soprano is not often used and not included in concert bands regularly. They both have beautiful sound, but if you're going to play soprano it's usually implied you play alto.

Am I an Alto, Mezzo or Soprano?

Try Mezzo. Soprano parts in music can get pretty high, and based on your voice, I don't know if you'll be able to reach those notes. But alto would be too low for you too, in my opinion. But remember it's always easier to sing lower in pitch than higher.

What is a good way to become comfortable with the new scales introduced with Jazz?

I'm moving into serious jazz now after playing for the high school jazz band. I know all my major scales just fine, but while improvising, I find myself going to my teacher, asking what blues scale I can slip in, or just simply what notes work where, instead of looking to actually understand the symbols that represent the chord changes. Now that I'm getting out of a school jazz environment I really want to familiarize myself and actually learn and understand all these new things with jazz. I broke it during marching band practice and no money to get it fixed and now its just sitting gathering dust.

Does auto body or mechanical work require you to be strong (I'm a girl)?

I met a few gals that can really paint over the years, good hand eye coordination, and color matching ability's, but it takes its toll on your body over the years, its very strenuous repetitive work believe it or not, and takes a lot of talent to do the nice custom work, however the pay is good if you get in with the right outfit, and most painters start there careers in the bodyshop and not the paint shop, so there smarter than they let on, they just dont want to do body work anymore as it will really beat you up after awhile, as far as the mechanical end. IDK one of my old girlfriends is a mechanic for the California Highway Patrol. but as California is broke I wonder if she still has a job , hope so she was pretty cool,

Does it ever get hot along Lake Superior in Minnesota?

I know that inland areas of Northern Minnesota get hot a few times a year - and they average in the upper 70's for highs in July, but I was wondering if it ever gets hot in Grand Marias or Sky Harbor? For example, on July 1, DULUTH INTERNATIONAL hit 91 degrees, while at the same time, Grand Marias and Duluth Sky Harbor remained only at 51 degrees! 40 degrees colder! I was wondering if coastal areas such as these ever get hot? Is the weather of Duluth more representative of the international airport or Sky Harbor? I could not believe how cold it was on July 1st of this year in those areas. If anyone lives in Duluth and remembers July 1st, was it more like 90 degrees outside or was it in the 50's?

Where to fish in San Francisco Bay?

Citation for crossed hatched parking? (next to disabled)?

So I was sitting on this day and wanted to go to 7 eleven pick up a few snacks for the kids and go home. Took less than 5 min for sure. This parking lots sucks in palo alto and is total of 6 parking spots for ppl at 7eleven and a Washing place for clothes next door. on this day all parking spots were taken and i just wanted to quickly get in and out. I waited for a guy to get out of his parking spot realizing he was parked in a no parking zone. I figured it maybe i can do it in and out and leave. WEll i think some1 just waits nearby to people like me and i got a citation within that 5 min period probably not even 2 min after i got there. Now i DID NOT realize these are made for disabled peoples ramps etc to get out of their car. I did not use common sense and i feel REALLy bad about. One because being recently disabled and on temporary disability im realizing how bad it is for these people. I also have never received a temporary disabled placard and have chosen not to get one because there are people worse off than me that can use it. Not being aware of how imp. those extra spaces are I would have NEVER EVER Parked there and just waited for 15 min if necessary for another parking spot to open. Can I let them know of my situation? and see if i can get by? i was told usually it doesnt matter and even disabled people get tickets and they dont care. :( I work less than part time and on disability to pay my bills so 303.00 for a ticket is a huge problem. Can it be reduced to at least half? I REALLy truthfully did not know. I have not received a ticket in 8 years and this is my 2nd citation in the 10 years I've been driving. So i dont like making mistakes as obvious as this one. VERY embarrassing. Is there anything i can do?

Okay, so I want to form a Christian music group. I was thinking something similar to PureNRG. Continued swelling and minor pain 4 weeks after circumcision?

Hi all, I'm 18 and I got circumcised June 3 due to phimosis. Now all of the stitches have fallen out except one, and the incision area is beginning to look more normal, though it's still all reddish. Anyway, I'm a little concerned about my glans and the bottom right-side of the incision below my glans. Those two parts are still swollen. I have not noticed any reduction of swelling of my glans since I removed the dressing applied after the op. The mouth of the glans has also remained swollen (it's widened) and has not changed at all, there is also additional minor stinging during and for a short period after urination in the mouth, but that pain has been there for 2 weeks and has not gotten worse. The bottom part that I mentioned above is swollen whenever I wake up in the morning and then goes down during the day. I put a light layer of gauze over my penis at night to make sleeping more comfortable and every morning there are a few little yellow, hardened, and sort of mucus-looking, stains on it. The head will very occasionally ache a little, and it sort of hurts for a second around the incision area on the top, when it swings around like when I'm walking. I have seen 4 different doctors since the op, the last one I saw about a 1 week and a half ago. They pretty much all said I was fine, two subscribed me addition antibiotics. I have finished a total of 4 different antibiotics. Am I okay?

I have a WOW trial account and I just found that I can play as Dranei and Blood Elves now. I couldn't just after the last update thing where you can have a trial account for an unlimited amount of time, but I explored quite a bit of the horde continent with my level 20 human character (Paladin) and got some quests of some dranei just before I realised I could do it. Did this unlock them or something and can I do the same with the remaining two races?

Trouble with squeaking on Saxophone?

I play alto sax and lately, I've been experiencing a lot of squeaking when I go into my highest D, E, and F. Occasionally my middle D will squeak once in a while too. I haven't been noticing this since I opened a new box of reeds (Vandoren 2 1/2). I soaked my reed in my mouth about 20 minutes prior to playing on it the first time, but after just hearing a bunch of squeaks I kept it in longer. I never experienced this problem with my older reed (same brand and strength). I use a Vandoren A27 mouthpiece and a Rovner ligature, if that matters. What can I do to stop it from squeaking?

I agree with Odin's Lied it's probably more about proximity to water because in Chicago it is the reverse and the city faces east towards the Great Lakes. It's all about location. In the Bronx save for coop city and the North side there isn't much for scenery. There fore property values are lower and poorer people can afford the South Bronx as opposed to Midtown Manhattan where there is a lot to do and a lot to see and more well to do people live there. If property values in the bad parts of the cities you named ever increase chances are they won't be ghettos for long.

If you can, play test them and see which one is better. If you can't I'd recommend the Bundy II. They're both good student instruments, but in my experience Bundy II's are more reliable. My own Bundy II lasted me over 10 years, and I just sold it after it had been sitting in the closet for a few years...I'm sure the new owner will get many more good years out of it.

Playing overtones and not the correct notes on baritone saxophone?

For one of my big bands my teacher asked me to play bari for the concert. I normally play alto. The bari is not a great horn and the reed is chipped a little. Leave it be. It IS likely the squirrel will be back, though. There IS something you can do, discourage the squirrel. You can TRY spreading plain ordinary dishwashing detergent on the tree limb leading to the nest that the squirrel will travel on. Anything greasy will work, like Crisco or lard. A friend of mine used vegetable oil and laundry soap to make a paste. The idea is to use something which will not hurt the tree but still will be something the squirrel will not likely walk through to get to the nest. Anything biodegradable would be good. The soap makes it taste bad. Ever seen a rat guard on the lines used to tie up a ship to a dock? Or the plastic collars used on dogs sometimes to keep them from chewing on an injury? You need something similar around the tree limb between the trunk and the nest. The collar needs to be about twice the height of the squirrel or it may be able to simply jump over. My neighbor did this on a tree in his yard with a nest. He got the collars on loan from a local vet, at no cost, provided he return them when no longer needed.

My macbook keeps shutting down when I unplug the charger?

This happened to my old apple laptop.. Normally when the battery gives out, it relies on the charger to keep the computer running. I know you said you replaced the battery, but batteries can fail like any other piece of technology. Maybe take it into an apple store where they have the genius area that they can inspect your macbook and tell you what to do.

Question about cap hits?

Cap hit would be 2 million every year. It wouldn't make sense to go by every year remaining, as then it would have grown for this player, their cap hit by the other way would go 2 mill, 2.5 mill, and then 3 mill. That would have been 7.5 million over 3 years for a 6 mill contract.

Would these happen to be side effects of drugs or food poisoning?

When i was a teenager i was subjected to unusual side effects that normally wouldn't happen but for some reason it happened on one night when i went out with my parents to eat at a restaurant, then later that night on our way home from the restaurant i had altered vision where night time would look like the early mornings where it is all dark blue and also all the lights i saw where all blue. car headlights, street lights were all blue and i also noticed that when i got from the city to the highway it felt like it was a short trip, but know it takes at least 4 minutes but for some reason it felt like it was only 10 seconds and later on when i got home and when i was about to fall to sleep, i had this feeling like i was going to die because my body felt really cold and i could not move any of my limbs i was somewhat awake but my vision was very dim and saw a cloaked figure heading towards me slowly but i somehow shook out of it and was fully awake and went to sleep later on. But these sleeping problems attacked me on some nights. i am now 22 and these sleeping problems have seemed to have ceased for good or just remain dormant for now.

I can sing both in alto and soprano, so which should I sing? How do I find which one fits my personality best?

I'm starting to get really into singing, and I can sing in both ranges, and I like both, but I know that ultimately I will have to choose one range, otherwise I will always be switching back and forth and will never have a solid musical identity. No one ever buys them unless they're looking for real diamonds but come on who would spend that much on a bra. People just make them. I make them all the time :) you go to Michaels and pick out some bedazzles that you like. They don't have to be australian swarzski (spelling?) Because those are expensive. Then any kind of fabric glue. I really like E6000 or OK! To wash it. Then you line the outsides of the cup with glue and starting putting the bedazzles on. After you lined the outside you just fill it in. sometimes I like to just start in one corner then work my way up and across. Idk, you'll get the hang of it. But the best bras to use are the padded push up ones that already have a definite shape to the cup, not the flimsy ones. its super inexpensive to do it this way instead of buying one that someone made for you (they're sooo expensive!) its like 2 or 3 dollars for the glue and like 5 bucks for a thing of bedazzles. Or you could just buy the super expensive already made bras. Your choice, lol. And if you're confused about how to place the bedazzles there's a ton of tutorials on youtube. How much weight can I lose with hard work?

For the past 6 months my leg has been in a cast and i get it off july 8th!!! (thank god).. But i have gained significant weight.I am 20yrs old Currently I weigh 255 and I am 5,11. I don't think its INappropriate. But it would certainly be viewed as tacky. Especially in the business world, a Bachelor's isn't a big deal. Its the standard for education. The reason folks list a PhD or Masters is that those are above and beyond the standard. I think that's is still a little pretentious, but I recognize the work they've done and I'll give them that bit of recognition. To list your BA will still have the pretentiousness WITHOUT the extra work. You'll look silly.

I want to play Violin :D?

Well, i currently play the oboe (grade 3) and alto saxophone (grade 4, going to do skip 5 and go to 6 soon) and well, i love the sound of the violin also. I love music and everything about it, i was first really inspired when listening to Ida Haedin (can't spell i surname) play a piece, pablo sarasate zigeunerweisen and it was just beautiful. I want to know though, is the violin easy to learn, can i get lots of solo's and could you specify the details about the violin please. But then my friends keep saying that should rather play viola, i mean big of a difference are they?? I already know how to read music so :D (BTW im 14). Final thing, should i also play the violin (its is either all three or no violin, cause im not going up oboe and sax), will it affect my school work also, in a negative way, cause im pretty much the one of the top at my studies for GCSE, but don't want to fall behind because of another instrument. (Taking History, French, Geo, Music, IT, Triple Science, Maths and English, i only revise about 3 weeks before a test, but for french i go over what i learn for about 10 minutes each day, i have my music lessons each once a week and practise them for about 30 mins for each one, each day.)

I want to move out miles away from my parents house, how can i?

First of all i'm far from having a job or having any money. But is because i'm afraid that if i do get a job i'm going to have remain in my neighborhood. (which i don't like) Where i live the aparments here are very! expensive and crowded, lots of crimes here, i'm not sure i would want to pay something that i wouldn't be satisfied in living in the first place? I mean it will not be worth it for me. I wanted to live outside the box. If you want to be a radio DJ then you should intern at a radio station in your area so you can learn about the program board, on air protocol, and the radio industry in general. Do some research on what show or station you are interning for before starting the internship. You would not want to be on a lousy station for 4 months as an intern.

It's not a huge little bit of fat, I can feel the muscle underneath it, but I can't go to the gym or anything like that because I'm a lot younger than this website thinks I am. I can't control my own diet yet because I still live with my mom :3 I'm just a kid... but the only sport I do was soccer but even that is gone now because it's summer. I used to do swimming, soccer, karate, and baseball but all those I stopped because Middle School started last year and I had a lot to keep up with. I play Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Viola, Guitar, and Piano. The only instruments I don't have private lessons for are Guitar and Tenor Saxophone so I'm still pretty busy, so doing anything that takes more than 60 minutes a day is out of the question, but now that it's summer, I have a lot of time on my hands but I intend to stick to the exercise routine throughout the next school year so it can't be too long. so please help!
